L'Oreal Extraordinary Oils VoxBox

At the beginning of this month I was sent the L'Oreal Extraordinary Oils voxbox from Influenster.

I received:

• Shampoo
• Conditioner
• Deep conditioning mask

I have very curly and dry hair. I love these products. The first time I used them all together and I was shocked because it left these very pretty, very soft, ringlet curls in my hair. These curls stayed in tact for four days before I washed again. 

I plan to make another video with an update and so I can show how my hair looks before and after. But, for now, the report is that they are GREAT products!

A Year In Review:

I like making this style of video. I do have some more 2015 videos to put out, I'll decide then if I'll also put them up here, Either way, I have some pretty tight ideas for posts on here, and I'm happy about the direction. 2016 is here. 

the art of vlogging.

In October of 2014, I participated in "Vlogtober," on YouTube, which is basically a user posting a video every single day, most commonly vlogs, for the month of October. There are plenty of variations of this, such as Vlogust and Vlogmas. It's a cool thing.

When I decided to do this, in theory it sounded fucking awesome. The execution turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. I knew I liked watching vlogs, but I'd never exactly made one. I didn't know how to talk to camera about my life, or how to talk to camera in public, at all.

My attempts at vlogging, were really just collage style videos, without any sort of audio, with generally one of my friend's bands playing over the shots. I still make these types of videos, because they're fun, and sometimes you don't wanna hear someone talk for 2 minutes about their favorite kind of poptart, y'know?

So, 31 days later, I had completed Vlogtober, and I was so proud of myself. I'd like to start here by saying if you've ever been interested in vlogging, doing one of these will fucking make you or break you. If you think vlogging sounds cool, just try to do it everyday for a month. I remember the first day I woke up, November 1st, I immediately grabbed my phone to say hi and start a vlog. It was so strange to not do it at that point. This is when I learned that I liked to vlog, and the response I got from people showed me that others liked me vlogging.

Here is list of tips that I've learned as someone who posts vlogs really frequently now:

1. Don't just vlog once and say it's not for you. Chances are in the end it could still not be "for you," but just doing it once is not going to tell you enough. 
2. Talking to a camera is weird whether you do in your room or in public, so you just gotta work with that feeling. 
3. Don't put on a front about who you are in real life. Vlogging is one of the most personal things you could do, and if your whole vlog sounds scripted, just fucking stop. 
4. Time is a tricky thing, some people like super long vlogs and some folks don't. I've had success with keeping my vlogs under 5 minutes however, usually in the 3/4 department, by the way. 
5. Besides the above, have some fun, and don't take your self too seriously at all, man.

A Reintroduction To Myself

hi. hello. welcome. what's up? I'm Nora.

It's the first day of May, and that's weird.

When I first started this blog I was trying to do things, I was trying to post in a pleasing way, I was trying to put out content.. a lot of content.. And honestly, I wasn't always happy or impressed by it. I was putting it out because it got views, because it made sense in regard to other people's posts. I think that's dumb. I realized a long time ago that I didn't see use in it, and that's why I was so absent for so long, I think. 

I'm 22 years old and as of January 2015, I moved out of my parents house for the first time in my life. That's a weird thing, man. No matter how normal that is supposed to be, leaving home is never normal. Even when it's a societal idea. 

I just finished at a community college. It took me longer than it was "supposed" to, and for that reason, I'm now seeing everyone I graduated High School with, graduating from university with bigger degrees than me. I let that hurt for a minute, but I'm here to say that school is what you make it, and how much you want. There isn't any kind of magic number, or perfect load of classes. I'm happy, and I'm not in debt, so there's that, ya'll.

I can't stop thinking about how he's changed my life, and it's exciting. I wake up thinking that I've never seen a sunrise look as good as this. I wake up thinking I've never seen someone look so honest in their sleep.  

I want to rewrite myself into blogging in a way that's honest, in a way that's helpful, and in a way that's better. If you want to hang out, that'd be rad, honestly.

Probably one of my favorite videos of her beauty wise is one she did on how to do make up when you wear glasses. I thought that was seriously an awesome concept. I also love how self aware she is, and how politically aware she is for that matter. She's quite intelligent, and beautiful. SHE ALSO HAS PERFECT TASTE IN MUSIC, SERIOUSLY. I CAN'T EVEN. Anyhow, I've been watching her for a long while now, but I just feel like she was on point this whole month, therefore my favorite of the month.

I like this blog because it is exactly what I'd call "traditional blogging." As in you can tell the effort and love she puts into all of her posts. She is consist, and always has a good sense of her audience and material. I literally envy her consistency. I get caught up in all the other stuff I'm doing that sometimes I neglect other projects I've started. Ever since my tumblr hit 16,000 followers earlier this year it's been hard for me to focus on what I need to do with other things that are equally as important for me. So, I really admire and applaud her focus and consistency. I can always count on a post on Teenage Enthusiasm in my inbox, and that is an awesome thing to look forward to all the time. I really admire Morgan's voice in how she writes, it is adorable, and awesome. I think her blog is really universal, anyone can find something to like in it, so heyyyyy. (:

Beauty Guru Spotlight: guru of the year!!

It wasn't super hard for me to pick my favorite guru of the year. It's funny because the only reason I found out about her was because of a video she made about body positivity. After I watched that video, I subscribed, only to find make up tutorials and hauls and whatever in my inbox. I watched a few of her tutorials and fell in love with the genuineness in her personality.

Anyhow, I've mentioned her briefly before, so I'll just get right to it, my beauty guru for the year is:

Rachel Whitehurst.

 

This is Rachel's video on body image and her rant on the thinspo tag of Tumblr. It's the video I mentioned above that I first saw of hers. She also has a video called something like, Fuck Negativity (Advice on Life) - that is REALLY great, and of course her 3 part video series on college for people new to dorms and living on campus.

Besides these videos, she also posts really amazing covers, like she legitimately has a voice of a fucking angel. I swear to it. And, her makeup is always on point. I love her tutorials and first impressions because she is so straight up about everything. She'll tell you why she hates things, not just that she hates them, and same goes for why she loves things. I feel like she really considers all people with all different skin types when she makes tutorials, and when she's reviewing them. She's always thinks of what kind of skin type would work for a product that didn't work for her, instead of just writing it off as being a shitty product - which  is something I see a lot of beauty youtubers doing. 

Also, I have to mention: she is hilarious. so. hilarious.

Beauty Guru Spotlight.

Bunny has one of the most amazing personalities on youtube, I think. She's eccentric and she puts a lot into her videos. Even her tea vlogs where she's not really talking about anything in particular, she's still very entertaining. I trust her reviews too, I think she's pretty spot on and honest.
